A LOCAL COMPANY has suffered over $400 000 in losses so far, and stands to lose a major contract with a Government agency after a foul-up by a Chinese firm.
Chief executive officer of Snap-On Engineering and Construction Services Inc., Michael Power, said that last July he ordered forty 55-gallon drums of Oxytril (herbicide) but when the shipment came in November from the Chinese company – Shenyang Weiba Chemicals Trade Company Limited – it was found to be a mixture of water and ethlyne (liquid commonly used in radiators and batteries).
Speaking to journalists from the company’s Grove, St George location, Power said its reputation was now “on the line” and he was doubtful that he would be able to recover any of the losses incurred.
The products were ordered for the Barbados Agricultural Management Company (BAMC).
