IF THE NEWLY ELECTED executive committee of the Barbados National Council of Parent Teacher Associations (NCPTA) has its way, it will not be business as usual for Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs) in Barbados.

Speaking to WEEKEND NATION, president Shone Gibbs said the organisation, which is the umbrella body for PTAs, will be a reservoir of knowledge that parents, who seeks assistance, can tap into.

“We have to respond in a more tangible way,” he said. “We need to have more functioning PTAs and at the highest level. I can applaud several schools in this island that are doing phenomenal work, that in due course the public will know about through the correct forum.

“We’ve received our licks for being fundraisers only but the work that we have done in several schools from providing materials, teaching aides, repairs to plants, teacher development and such like have gone unnoticed but yes, you need money for that that’s why we raise funds,” he said.
