Take fresh guard for West Indies cricket

Share post:

WEST INDIES cricket is in pretty poor shape and those in charge have no clue about what to do to change the race to the bottom.

I will start with Jason Holder, the captain. This is a fine young man who is now learning the game. I believe that he deserves his place in this team. But it is not in his best interest to give him this squad at the start of his career.

Unfortunately, while it is clear that Holder is learning on the job, the selectors and the board will not admit the mistake and the lad will continue to fail in this role forced upon him.

I believe we should come to the end of the line with Marlon Samuels and Denesh Ramdin, but I cannot honestly say that Shai Hope and Shane Dowrich will turn things around.

Carlos Brathwaite had an interesting debut and has proven one thing – that something goes wrong with decent cricketers when they get in the West Indies set up. He must be applauded for his half-century on debut but that’s it. His four dismissals in one Test tell me a lot about his lack of mental awareness despite his obvious talents. He has to strengthen his mental application if not he will be exposed as quickly as Jermaine Blackwood.

So much is wrong with our cricket and so little is being done about it. Who will stop this slide?
