DR LENNOX HONYCHURCH will be the featured speaker at the 18th Annual Frank Collymore Literary Endowment Awards Ceremony this evening at the Grande Salle, Central Bank of Barbados, Tom Adams Financial Centre.

Dr Honychurch is the newly appointed General Manager of the Barbados National Trust and will speak on the topic “Love for an island and the urge for exile: Tensions in Caribbean Creativity”.

It will explore Caribbean Creativity as it relates to that challenging love of home and the compelling argument for broader, perhaps more writer friendly shores, exploring and exposing complex motivational factors as well as far reaching implications.

Educated at Oxford University, Dr Honychurch is a Caribbean Anthropologist whose main research interest is in the area of cultural exchange between indigenous peoples of the Lesser Antilles, and the new African and European arrivals.

His expertise is not restricted to his native Dominican culture and history. He is also conversant in broader Caribbean culture and ethnocentricity, and has published many books on the subject, including The Caribbean People and Caribbean Landmarks.

Dr Honychurch has held many prestigious public and academic positions, visiting and conducting lecture series at several University of the West Indies campuses. He has held prominent positions in radio and television, and appeared in several local and regional plays including UK Channel 4 TV miniseries: The Orchid House, and Sargasso.

He was also an extra in Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: The Black Pearl.

Four writers will be rewarded during the ceremony which starts at 6 p.m.

The Frank Collymore Literary Endowment was established by the Central Bank of Barbados in 1998 to assist in the promotion of the literary arts. (PR/SAT)
