Several parts of Barbados experienced heavy rainfall yesterday, but Barbadians should expect some ease today.

The Barbados Meteorological Services made that forecast yesterday evening after several areas were flooded due to a mid to upper level trough, which led to a flash-flood warning for up to 6 p.m. yesterday.

The forecast for today is a mix of sunshine and clouds with a few brief, isolated light showers.

Yesterday, director of the Department of Emergency Management (DEM), Kerry Hinds, urged Barbadians to stay on their guard amidst the heavy showers.
“We remind persons that we are in the most active part of the hurricane season at this stage and the occurrence of excessive rainfall can cause flooding.

“So we ask persons to remain alert and take the necessary precautions and please do not attempt to traverse rising floodwaters – wait for the water to subside. And if you need to evacuate, please have your ‘go’ bags and emergency kits ready,” Hinds said.

She made these comments after noting there were reports of flooding at Maycocks Terrace in St Lucy, Cane Garden in Thomas, Pinelands in St Michael and Warner’s Gardens in Christ Church. (TG)
