Met Office issues flash-flood watch

A flash-flood watch is in effect until 6 p.m. today or sooner, if conditions warrant.

Barbados Meteorological Services issued the alert at 9:30 a.m.

A flash-flood watch is issued when heavy or excessive rainfall in a short period (generally less than six hours) could result in flash flooding within the watch area. It does not mean that flooding will occur, but it is possible.

Maximum rainfall accumulations of 25 mm to 50 mm ( one to two inches) in moderate to heavy showers are likely.

Residents and visitors should be prepared for the possibility of strong runoff from higher elevations. Soil erosion is likely on bared or scarred land surfaces. Debris such as rocks, mud and foliage could end up on roads and property. Traffic delays and flooding at the foot of hillsides and coastal roads is possible.
