Irate callers vented on the radio yesterday about the lack of a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH).
And the outcry was such that hospital officials responded by saying that patients were being referred to private facilities.
Concerned callers to the Voice Of Barbados radio call-in programme Down To Brass Tacks questioned why the island’s main health facility did not have such a critical piece of equipment, making it necessary to outsource those services to the two privately owned MRI facilities.
Calling into the programme in response, QEH acting director of medical services Dr Chaynie Williams, the substantive clinical director of emergency services, confirmed that patients in need of MRI services were being referred to private operators. (GC)
