It was not the first time Alonza Oliver Junior Blackman had burgled a house where a single woman lived, but it was the first time he choked, smothered, and raped a woman, even though she told him she was pregnant.

And for that, he will serve the next 16 years, with effect from October 9, at HMP Dodds.

The 23-year-old, of Collins, St Peter, had pleaded guilty to rape and burglary, which both occurred on May 22, 2019.

Blackman asked the court to have mercy on him, blamed his actions on drug addiction, and asked for the minimum sentence.

Justice Carlisle Greaves told the rapist he had surprised him with his forthright desire to accept responsibility for his actions. (RA)
