Barbados’ progress towards becoming efficient in renewable energy supply has been commended by CARICOM experts in the field.

The recognition came from among a panel of experts in financing, policy and regulations in the electric utilities field and in technology, during a discussion yesterday to kick off Caribbean Energy Month.

Barbadian panellist Kim Griffith Tang-How, director of Customer Solutions with Barbados Light and Power Company highlighted Barbados’ “ambitious target” of 100 per cent reliance on renewable energy by 2030 in a national energy policy.

However, responding to a question from a caller, Griffith Tang-How suggested that the energy experts particularly in utility “may need to sit down with the policymakers and maybe ask some hard questions”. (GC)
