Starz United dazzled Cawmere in five sets to put a serious dent in the Waterford lads’ hopes of placing second in the league when the Goddard Enterprises Limited Division One Volleyball Tournament continued on Monday night at the Wildey Gymnasium.
With defending champions Deacons ending the first round with a maximum 25 points, Cawmere needed the win against Starz to enter round two on 17 points while opening a gap on Barbados Bearings Progressive.
However, Starz took the match 25-23, 25-23, 17-25, 14-25, 15-13.
Starz, who are 2/2 with seven points, will meet Progressive tonight at 6.30. Cawmere have ended the first round on 14 points from a 3/2 effort. (KB)
