Residents of Porters Road, Queen Street, St Peter were in a state of shock after one of their own was gunned down at his doorstep yesterday.

According to the police report, an armed assailant shot Shaakil Don’ele Williams or Big Shack, 31, multiple times around 12:35 p.m. He died at the scene in the densely populated community and increased the island’s murder toll to 36 for this year.

Some residents who did not want to be identified said they would not speculate about what led to Williams’ death, while others recalled seeing him walking through the community hours before the incident.

“I don’t know what happened . . . because we had just seen him and he was good. But then we hear all the gunshots and then hear he was who get hit,” a middle-aged woman said.

Her neighbour, an elderly man, explained that shootings were not common in the area. He said he hoped there were no recurrences. (TG)
