Buyer’s remorse, says De Peiza

President of the Democratic Labour Party Verla De Peiza said “there’s a whole lot of buyer’s remorse in Barbados” but, come polling day, the constituents of St George North have the “first opportunity to redress that imbalance”.

She told those attending a mass meeting Monday night in Thorpe’s Cottage, that the voters who go to the polls from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the November 11 by-election to choose a new parliamentary representative, had only one choice – DLP candidate Floyd Reifer.

Addressing what she termed “the galloping us and them society developing in Barbados”, the leader of the DLP said that one of the proposals stated in the Barbados Labour Party candidate Toni Moore’s brochure was insulting.

“Several years ago, they had on the other side, a programme called Project Oasis. Basically what it was, was putting weed whackers and lawnmowers in people’s hands. Several years ago, I dare say I can count decades, so you mean to tell me that in the 1990s, early 2000s, that you will back in 2020 and in your brochure insult people by telling them about debushing Barbados and cleaning up St George North and that is the only vision that you have for your people?

“And then you lay that alongside what Floyd Reifer is offering from the platform of the Democratic Labour Party to promote entrepreneurs in this constituency, to marry people who have skills with those who need them and those who want to learn them. And when you put those two together, do you not get a sense of a people who don’t view you in anything but hewers of wood and drawers of water?

“Do you not want better for yourself? Do you not want your children to advance themselves? And in this time when the major foreign exchange earner for this country is not on its knees but comatose and on life support, should you not have had access to your severance so that you could take advantage of entrepreneurial opportunities outside of a weed whacker?

“Do you not see yourself in a better light than that St George North? Because if you do and I know that you do, then Floyd Reifer is the only choice that you have on the 11th of November a little bit more than 24 hours from now,” she said.

De Peiza also told constituents not to “let anyone paint a black and white picture” of themselves when their “vision is fully in colour”.

She urged them to “stand up” for themselves and noted “it doesn’t really matter what you are offered, so long as you see what it written on that paper that tells you want they think about you”. (GBM)
