Officials from the Barbados Fire Service’s Hazardous Materials Waste Removal Unit were called to the Psychiatric Hospital earlier today.
David Leacock, the Hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, told Nation News moments ago the special unit was called in after what was thought to be a strange substance was found on the compound at the Black Rock, St Michael, facility.
Leacock said he could not go into detail at this stage regarding what that substance might be.
Vehicles from the Barbados Fire Service and the Royal Barbados Police Force were on the scene from just after 3:30 p.m.
On the inside, some staff members could be seen milling around and conversing with fire fighters, but everything else appeared normal. (BA)
