Club staff still in dark

The fate of 150 workers at The Club Barbados Resort & Spa remains uncertain as there is still no official word on when they will receive full severance pay.

More than 50 upset workers gathered outside the Vauxhall, St James property in spite of the inclement weather, some from as early as 9 a.m.

However, their protest was low-keyed. Only one worker had a placard, and chants about workers wanting their money did not exceed 30 seconds.

When an officer from the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) arrived just before 11 a.m., industrial relations officer at the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU), Davida Forde, who was accompanied by co-worker Lisa Holder, instructed a few of the workers to have the consultation with that officer to hear if options would find their favour.

When one of the workers returned and reported to the union delegates, the workers were instructed not to sign any contracts. (SB)
