Fear of dangerous backyard well prompts cry for help

Deep danger lurks in the backyard of a St Lucy home and residents are appealing to authorities to fix an uncovered well before tragedy strikes.

People in Clinketts Gardens, fear any of the small children or even an adult could fall into the pit which is barely covered by two rusted galvanised sheets.

They said their appeal to the Ministry of Transport and Works earlier this year, and again on Friday, to have something done about the well had gone unheeded.

The situation was first highlighted in a video on social media showing a “real deep well”, with the voice of a woman asking for help.

“Look, look at that, and they got nuff children up in hey. Every since we complain ’bout this well here and they won’t come and do nutten. Look the slab there drop right in,” the woman said. (RA)
