The Chief Welfare Officer is advising business entities, financial institutions and members of the public to be extra vigilant in relation to the surfacing of counterfeit cheques and local purchase orders (food vouchers) that falsely appear to be issued by the Welfare Department.

The Department has become aware that people have presented fraudulent cheques and vouchers for food, purporting to be from the Welfare Department.

Please note that entities that accept such cheques or vouchers as payment do so at their own risk.

Anyone who is suspicious of any such cheques should contact the Welfare Department at 535-1000, and inform the Royal Barbados Police Force at 430-7100.

The Welfare Department thanks the public for its cooperation. (BGIS)
