Residents of Bathsheba and surrounding areas have back one of their scenic footpaths.

It comes in the form of the reopening of the historic train bridge, erected over Joe’s River.

The bridge, which was in a state of disrepair for 15 years, will link residents as far as Cattlewash, Joe’s River and Bathsheba.

The project was a collaboration involving the Future Centre Trust, Cattlewash Property owners and the Tourism Development Corporation.

Yesterday at the handing over ceremony, coordinator of the project Edward Ince said it took $50 000 to complete the bridge and it was done in ten days. A small team from Joe Brooker’s Building Limited rebuilt the bridge.

He said the bridge was an easier access route for residents instead of walking up the nearby hill. Ince added that it would also benefit hikers who had to climb rocks to cross Joe’s River.

Member of Parliament for St Joseph, Dale Marshall, said it was important for these bridges to be brought back to life, adding that it would bring back a greater interest in the old train line. He said Government was also looking to do its part in the Bathsheba community by erecting a new facility in January. Marshall said it would house several vending kiosks, which would generate economic activity.

Marshall, who is also Attorney General, said a number of the abandoned Government buildings in his constituency were on the list to be refurbished. (SB)
