One day after the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) revealed that it had recorded four COVID-19 positive cases, the administration of the health facility announced it would be ramping up testing for staff at the facility.

Speaking at a virtual press conference yesterday, Executive Chairman of the QEH, Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland, said that with the virus having infiltrated the hospital from the community, the plan had now shifted into its second phase, which was to ensure the virus did not overwhelm the institution.

“The reason why we moved our paediatrics and antenatal clinic, is so that our staff can await testing results. We are also going to be setting up at Belleville, an additional testing area that staff who want to have voluntary testing, perhaps because of some area of concern, can now be in a position to do so,” said Bynoe-Sutherland.

“We also have developed a further staff exposure policy that gives staff clear guidelines as to what to do, should they fear that they have an exposure in the hospital or at home. We have opted to centralise this to ensure that we do not have supervisors messaging and causing unnecessary panic,” she added. (CLM)
