COVID testing gets underway at the Gymnasium

Scores of people are turning up at the Wildey Gymnasium this morning to get their COVID -19 tests.

Although the area was retrofitted with tents and seating arrangements to ease the process, there are still long lines.

Both locals, and visitors who plan to go back home, are being tested.

A number of taxi operators are dropping off visitors, some of whom were told to return for a particular time tomorrow. Barbadians are coming in family groupings, pairs or alone.

More than 150 people came for testing within the first hour of the facility opening at 9:30 a.m.

The process appears to be going smoothly as they are personnel positioned at the entrance directing people where to go and answering questions they may have.

Yesterday, the Ministry of Health and Wellness announced that testing would be done at the Gymnasium instead of the Best-dos Santos Laboratory.

Arrangements are also being made for patients at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital to get tests before they go to surgery. (SB)
