The body pulled from the water was identified as that of English visitor Mark Smith.

The 61-year-old, who was staying at Sunset Crest, St James, was identified by a close friend and business associate.

The body was pulled from the water near the Cliff in the same parish and taken to the Shallow Draught.

Police reported Smith was missing at sea on Sunday. Around 8:30 a.m. that day, a witness told lawmen  he saw a man bathing at the beach near The Beach House. He was reportedly warned by other sea-goers not to venture into the water since it was very rough and unsafe, but he continued and was hit by a large wave at some point.

The witness said he did not see him resurface and could not locate his body after looking for him.
Police, coast guard and other personnel searched both land and sea. (PR/SAT)
