The Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory identified 43 new positive cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, February 9, from among 315 tests.

Thirty-four people recovered, bringing the number of active cases to 333.

The 43 new cases comprise 23 women and 20 men. Eighteen of them were already at the Harrison Point Isolation Facility in St Lucy undergoing assessment to determine whether their positive PCR test result showed they were newly positive or had COVID-19 in the past and were no longer infectious. The other 25 people are Barbadians.

Only two inmates from Her Majesty’s Prison Dodds have COVID-19 and are included in the active cases. There were 363 positive cases at the prison.

To date, Barbados recorded 1 857 confirmed cases – 786 females and 1 071 males – and 1 504 persons recovered. There were 20 deaths from the viral illness.

The public health laboratory has so far completed 109 146 tests. (BGIS)
