GG to take vaccine publicly

Governor General Dame Sandra Mason will publicly take the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine at a date to be announced.

Head of the COVID Communications Unit, Ambassador Liz Thompson made the announcement during Wednesday’s update to the nation. She said Dame Sandra had tested negative and was doing well.

Last week, Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley revealed that Dame Sandra went into self-quarantine after an employee of Government House tested positive for the virus.

She said Chief Justice Sir Patterson Cheltenham was also self-quarantining, out of an abundance of caution, after it was discovered an employee at his workplace may have been exposed to COVID-19.

Ambassador Thompson was unable to give an update on Sir Patterson.

Last Saturday, a notice from the Barbados Government Information Service said Dame Sandra would be on holiday from February 6 to 15, and in accordance with Section 29 (1) (a) of the Constitution of Barbados, the Very Reverend Dr Jeffrey Gibson was sworn in by Justice Randall Worrell to perform the functions of Governor General in her absence.
