Barbados Meteorological Services said today that a plume of Saharan dust haze is forecast to significantly affect Barbados and the marine area from Saturday.

As a result, people with respiratory issues are advised to have prescribed medication close at hand.

A dust-haze advisory is issued when dust haze has already reduced or is forecast to reduce visibility between 5 and 10km within 48 hours.

The Met Office said slight hazy conditions from Saturday afternoon, becoming progressively thicker into Saturday night and Sunday are expected.

“Residents, visitors, and marine users should be prepared to take action, as a significant reduction in visibility is either likely or already occurring. Persons with respiratory issues or allergies should ensure that they travel with, or have close at hand, all prescribed medications.

“Marine users should monitor the situation closely, along with the forecast for any further deterioration,” the Met Office said.
