The Ministry of Health and Wellness said today that Barbados recorded 57 new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) on Saturday, February 20, out of the 756 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory.

There were 56 recoveries and the number of active cases is now 771.

The 57 new positive cases comprised 29 women and 28 men. Two of them had already been at the Harrison Point Isolation Facility undergoing assessment to determine whether their positive PCR test result showed that they were newly positive, or whether they had COVID-19 in the past and were no longer infectious.

Fifty-three of the new cases were Barbadians and two were non-nationals.

Barbados has recorded 2 772 confirmed cases – 1 272 females and 1 500 males – and 1 970 people have recovered.  There have been 31 deaths from the viral illness.

Since February 2020, the public health laboratory has completed 120 811 tests.

There were 1 346 people vaccinated on Saturday, as part of the National Vaccination Programme for COVID-19.

To date, a total of 15 837 vaccinations have been administered – 6 981 men and 8 856 women. (BGIS)
