Head coach of the Barbados senior national men’s team, Russell Latapy, says the absence of the Coca Cola Premier League due to the COVID-19 pandemic will make it difficult to gauge the progress of the island’s top footballers.

But the Caribbean football legend believes once the league resumes, more players will be drafted into the national programme.

“I’m sure that once we get going again, we can get back to what we have been doing. We want to take a lot of players from our domestic league and fit them into the national set-up. I know as soon as we get to grips with the COVID-19 situation, the league is going to start back. I know that our clubs are ready to go. We at the BFA will definitely get going,” Latapy told WEEKEND NATION SPORT during a recent telephone interview.

Latapy said the league is very important to him because most of the players on the national team play in the Premier League. (AGB)
