The COVID-19 pandemic is taking a toll on overall health care systems, resulting in some people being unable to get routine procedures done.
That grim situation was presented Friday night by Dr Karen Broome, advisor, immunisation – Caribbean Sub-Region PAHO/WHO Office for Barbados & the Eastern Caribbean and Dr Kenneth Connell, internist/clinical pharmacologist and Deputy Dean of The UWI’s Cave Hill Campus’ Faculty of Medical Sciences.
The two panellists participating in the free webinar titled Debunking The Myth Of The Covid-19 Vaccine Part 2, held by The Sagicor Cave Hill School of Business And Management, were responding to a question about the rush to vaccinate people using the Oxford-AstraZeneca, when “many European countries” have discontinued it.
Connell said: “This is the rush. There is a global forest fire occurring. People are dying, infections are spreading, variants are evolving and the vaccines that we have now we know are pretty effective, or efficacious, against death and serious illness for the variants that we currently have. But we don’t know that’s going to happen in the future. (GBM)
