A well-known vagrant who frequents Oistins and the surrounding areas has taken up residence at the old public library building at Oistins, Christ Church, under the noses of police officers and environmental health officers.

A concerned resident who drew the matter to the attention of the Daily Nation expressed shock that the vagrant was able to move onto the Government-owned property, which is sandwiched between the Oistins Police Station and the Randall Phillips Polyclinic.

A visit to the library showed that the man had taken over the entire rear balcony which faces the Oistins beach and turned it into his personal abode.

There were clothes hanging on a line, a chair, several pots and pans as well as utensils, buckets, a ladder, several pairs of shoes and bags.

On the nearby lawn there was a mattress from a crib and two pillows.

Chief Environmental Health Officer Francine Bascombe said they were aware of the situation.

“The gentleman was previously removed from the interior of the building and the building was secured. Efforts are being made to address this present situation.” (MB)
