If you are willing to take the risk of importing illegal drugs into the island, then be willing to do the time if caught.

This was the message from Justice Laurie-Ann Smith-Bovell as she sentenced drug trafficker Dale Eugene Gill to 12 years when he reappeared in the No. 4 Supreme Court yesterday.

“Drugs destroy many young lives in Barbados either through its use, which oftentimes leads to addictions and the inability of persons to function at their full potential, robbing this country of its valuable human resources. Or it affects youth with the consequential illegal activity that goes along with protecting drug turf which, at times, results in serious bodily injury or sometimes death,” she said.

“A message must be sent to the public that if you are prepared to be involved in the drug trade, be also willing to accept the hefty penalty that accompanies such.”
