Barbados’ road, water and transportation infrastructure is in line for a $500 million boost over the next three years as Government moves to fire up the economy.

Minister of Transport, Works and Water Resources Ian Gooding-Edghill announced that the major capital works effort would get a kick-start when the new financial year starts on April 1, with $139.4 million allocated for “the largest investment package since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic”.

Gooding-Edghill detailed the plans yesterday as his ministry’s budget for 2021-2022 was discussed on day three of the Estimates Debate in the House of Assembly.

“With a projected cost of over a half billion dollars in capital expenditure over the next three years, the Ministry of Transport, Works and Water Resources will be creating history by undertaking the most comprehensive and expansive works programme ever seen in Barbados beginning in this forthcoming financial year,” the St Michael West Central representative told Parliament.
