In a first for the Emmanuel Baptist Church a member was inducted before being baptised.
The departure from the tradition was as a result of the COVID-19 Directives which bar activities on the beach except for swimming or exercising at specified times.
Reverend Vincent Wood proceeded to admit new convert Angela Glasgow to the church today, the first Sunday of in-person service after a ten-week break. The break stemmed from a national lockdown followed by a partial re-opening of the country as health officials grapple with an exploding of coronavirus COVID-19 cases which began in late December.
Wood said baptisms would resume once the all-clear is given. The church, which is 50 years old, moved to its present location at President Kennedy Drive, St Michael in 1978.
In the first service at the church since Old Year’s Night and in a sermon titled Mountain Top Living, Wood called on Christians to draw nearer to God. He said when God communicated with leaders he usually ordered them to ascend away from the lowlands.
“Rise up and get nearer to God, God that wants to commune with us, the God that wants to have quiet time with us,” he advised. (AC)
