NORTH SOUND – West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite fell in the ninth over before lunch, after helping his side make steady progress in their chase of 375 for victory against Sri Lanka in the first Test in Antigua.

Brathwaite made a painstaking 23, and the Windies reached 91 for two in their second innings at the interval on the final day of the match at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

At lunch, Nkrumah Bonner was not out on 50 and left-hander Kyle Mayers was not out on six.

Bonner reached his 50 from 126 balls in the final over before lunch, when he dug out a yorker from pacer Dushmantha Chameera and got a single to mid-on.

Brathwaite put on 66 for the second wicket with Bonner before he was bowled, charging down the pitch and being deceived in flight by a delivery from ambidextrous spinner Lasith Embuldeniya.

The West Indies captain was the only success for the Sri Lankans before lunch, after the hosts resumed from their overnight total of 34 for one following a 15-minute delay to the start because of a wet outfield caused by rain.

Summarised scores:
