Barbadian swimmer Alex Sobers has done it again.

The 22-year-old produced another Olympic “B” standard last night at the ISCA International Senior Cup in Florida.

Sobers struck gold while defeating American Olympic gold medallist Ryan Lochte in the finals of the men’s 200m freestyle with a new national record time of 1 minute 48.3 seconds, erasing his own mark of 1:50.87. The Olympic “B” Qualifying Time is 1:50.23.

It was also a new meet record, with the first five all dipping under the old time of 1:50.92 set by Noah Bowers in 2018. Khader Baqlan was second in 1:48.62 and Caeleb Dressel third in 1:49.26. Lochte finished sixth.

On Thursday night Sobers clocked a new national record of 3 minutes 53.19 seconds in the 400 metres freestyle, also a “B” standard. (AGB)
