Minister of Environment Adrian Forde has asked Barbadians to start cleaning up and bagging the ash from the La Soufriere Volcano in St Vincent.

He said residents should bag the ash in crocus or feed bags and put them outside for collection by the Sanitation Service Authority (SSA), the National Conservation Commission and other private entities as needed.

The minister said from reports, cleaning had not started in some areas as it appeared people were waiting for the next ash plume to pass.

However, Forde urged people to start bagging the ash now to reduce the accumulation of the dust.

Those needing collection are asked to call the SSA hotline at 262-5326/27 and a crew will collect the bagged ash.

The national clean-up campaign to clear the ash started on Monday.

La Soufriere began erupting explosively last Friday. (RA)
