The prosecution wants the sentence imposed on a lawman convicted of raping a then 16-year-old to begin at 18 years.

However, Constable Jason Andre Callender’s attorney pointed to his low risk of reoffending and said the starting point should be between five and ten years in jail.

Callender, now 38, of 6th Avenue, Durants Village, St James, and who is on remand at HMP Dodds, was back before Justice Christopher Birch in the No. 5A Supreme Court yesterday after he was convicted, by unanimous verdict at an earlier Session of the Continuous Sittings, of having unlawful sexual intercourse with the now 26-year-old woman, between June 1 and October 7, 2010.

He was also found guilty of committing an act of serious indecency against her between October 6 and 7, 2010. (HLE)
