Thousands of Barbados Water Authority (BWA) customers in the north and east who were without service should be seeing a “gradual return of water”.

Work on the Hope Desalination Plant in St Lucy was completed on Friday and the facility is back online.

The plant was taken out of service to allow for urgent maintenance on filters and membranes and the work was estimated to last until Sunday.

There was a huge outcry from residents in the north and east of Barbados who were without water even as the country was embarking on a national cleanup of ash from the La Soufriere volcano in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

BWA general manager Keithroy Halliday urged Barbadians not to use potable water to wash down surfaces. (PR/SAT)
