Most of the people in long lines on the compound of the Barbados Licensing Authority (BLA) in The Pine, St Michael, earlier today were not waiting to use its services.

A senior official in the Ministry of Transport and Works said a clear distinction should be made between the Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA), where most of the people were waiting, and the BLA.

Almost 100 people were observed in various lines on the compound of the Licensing Authority. They included the BRA offices, the inspection bay and those taking the regulation test. Many were seen trying to seek shelter from the sun wherever they could. In the inspection Bay, ash dust was affecting the workers, causing a slowdown, and some drivers were asked to return tomorrow.

Some said they were waiting since 6 a.m. and were told there was a computer problem.

Nation News contacted the BRA for comment, but none was forthcoming. It was later ascertained the issue surrounded a malfunctioning electronic door, which would allow access to staff by the general public, if not fixed. (CA)
