Well-known cleric and moderator The Reverend Canon George Andrew Hatch passed away on Wednesday, April 21 at the age of 91.

Anglican Bishop Michael Maxwell confirmed today that Hatch had passed away.

In 2007, Hatch was awarded the Silver Crown of Merit in recognition of his contribution to the community and, in particular, his contribution to the church.

Hatch was involved in Barbados-based projects, including the solar water heating industry and the “Windows-to-the-sea campaign, for which he was named “Man of the Year” in 1980. Hatch was also deputy chairman of the Caribbean Tourism Organisation for its first 11 years.

He was appointed rector of St James in 1982 until his retirement in 1994.

Hatch also had a large following as moderator of call-in show Down To Brass Tacks, which he moderated for over 11 years.
