Blackman ready for Tridents run

Barbados Tridents’ forward Nick Blackman is fully focused on representing the team in the World Cup football qualifiers in June after missing out on the trip to the Dominican Republic last month.

Blackman, who represents Israel champions Maccabi Tel-Aviv, said he was hampered by COVID-19 restrictions, especially the mandatory quarantine upon returning to Israel.

It was bitter-sweet for the 31-year-old as he hit top form for his club at the beginning of April and that spark may have been a welcome addition to the Tridents’ offence.

Also missing out on the trip was Swindon Town’s Hallam Hope and Budapest Honvéd’s Thierry Gale, because of strict protocols across Europe regarding the movement and quarantine of people.

After an extended period away from the team, Blackman returned to the side on March 16 and scored from the penalty spot to secure a 3-2 away victory for Maccabi over Hapoel Haifa in the Israel State Cup. (NM)
