Throughout this weekend, parents and several old scholars will be working together to rid Harrison College of volcano ash.

From as early as 7 a.m. on Saturday, the volunteers joined the staff at the Crumpton Street secondary school to wipe furniture, vacuum, sweep and clean surfaces of the dust and ash from La Soufrière in St Vincent and the Grenadines, which began to cover Barbados earlier this month.

Vice president of the Parent Teachers Association, Shawn Franklin, said they were expected to work until around midday on Saturday and tomorrow to get the school ready.

Due to the extensive coverage of ash, the resumption of in-person teaching which was set for April 20 was postponed. Students will resume in an online environment on Tuesday until face-to-face classes can resume. (TG)
