The University of the West Indies (UWI) is now ranked in the top 2.5 per cent of the best universities of the world in The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2021 released last week.

Making the disclosure today, vice chancellor Professor Sir Hilary Beckles described it as “magnificent news”.

He suggested it would be a significant boost in the University’s quest to commercialise the brand and to secure donor funding internationally.

“We chose to participate in this ranking because universities were being ranked within the context of the UN’s sustainable development goals and how are universities delivering on the UN mandate.

“We were ranked competitively in the areas of climate change, public health, advocacy, gender justice,” Sir Hilary said while presenting the vice chancellor’s annual report of a review for the year 2020-2021, at the virtual UWI council meeting. (GC)
