Big plans for the port

BARBADOS’ PORT is set to become the trans-shipment hub of the Caribbean.

During the Barbados Port Inc.’s 60th anniversary celebrations time capsule ceremony yesterday at Cube Blue, University Row, Bridgetown, Minister of Maritime Affairs Kirk Humphrey said the port was evolving and one of the more significant advancements was becoming a regional hub.

“To counter the negative impacts of COVID-19, ports around the world are moving towards new dynamic approaches to development and efficiency. They are building specialised facilities, developing multi-purpose terminals and focusing on becoming large-scale hubs,” he said.

“Here at home we are taking steps to improve the logistics supply chain and to reinforce our standing as an efficient logistics hub. (CA)
