The Nation received a report that staff at the Gordon Cummins District Hospital staged a sickout this morning.

This is the second time for the year that this occurred at the Rock Hall, St Thomas health institution, following that at the end of March.

Head of the Unity Workers’ Union, Senator Caswell Franklyn, confirmed the action was taken by staff. He said the nurses and general workers at the healthcare facility have been experiencing issues with management for a while but the Ministry of Health was not addressing the matter.

Franklyn explained that the staff, who worked last night, were asked to work back-to back shifts because their work colleagues called in sick today. (SB)
