Police recovered an AK-47 and four rounds of ammunition and took a man into custody on Wednesday night.

In a media release, police say they received a report of four men acting suspiciously at Upper Sergeants Village, Christ Church, around 8:55 p.m.

On checking the area, they encountered the four men, one of whom was armed with an AK-47 assault rifle. That man reportedly pointed the firearm in the direction of the police who fired shots in an effort to defend themselves.

The armed man attempted to escape and in the process dropped the weapon. He was pursued, captured and the AK-47 recovered. The man was searched and four rounds of ammunition were also found in his possession. The three other men fled across a bushy area and escaped.

Investigations are ongoing.

Anyone who may have information that can assist with this investigation is asked to contact the Hasting/Worthing Police Station at 430-7608/7614, Police Emergency at 211, Crime Stoppers at 1 800-TIPS (8477), or any Police Station. (PR/SAT)
