The Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Autocross Championship will get underway at Bushy Park race circuit in St Philip tomorrow.

This is one of 36 events earmarked by the Barbados Motoring Federation (BMF) following last Saturday’s speed event at Vaucluse Raceway in a revised provisional calendar for the rest of 2021.

“While the coronavirus pandemic means the situation remains very fluid and this calendar is still provisional, we are optimistic that things are easing, as Government protocols allow more activity.

“We have worked hard to arrive at a list of dates which allows a fair distribution of events among the clubs,” BMF vice-president Mark Hamilton said in a press release this week.

Hamilton said the BMF is continuing discussions with Government bodies to clarify when spectators can return to live action.

“We are in regular discussions with Government’s COVID-19 Monitoring Unit at the Ministry of Health and Wellness and hope to meet with them soon to clarify what protocols will need to be in place to allow us to welcome spectators to events,” he said.

“Further announcements will be made in due course, but we felt it was important to publish the calendar now to give our competitors time to prepare.”

After the BRC’s Track Day on June 5, racing fans will be treated to the BRC/Motoring Club of Barbados sprint event the following day at Bushy Park.

This will be followed by a rally sprint at Vaucluse on June 12 and an autocross at Bushy Park on June 20 before the islandwide BRC MudDogs’ Navigational rally, June 26-27. The highlight of the year is expected to be King Of The Hill on September 19 and the Sol Barbados Rally, September 25-26.

The season is set to conclude on December 12 with the BRC’s Autocross at Bushy Park. (EZS)
