The Barbados Defence Force’s (BDF) Relief Supply Unit has collected just over 450 pallets of much-needed supplies for Vincentians adversely impacted by the eruption of La Soufriere volcano on April 9.

More than half of them have already been shipped, says head of the unit, Lieutenant Commander Graham Rocheford, who added that a number of private individuals, families and organisations had made donations.

“Our first shipment was 112 pallets of water, non-perishable food items, cleaning materials, sanitary items and baby items . . . . Those were the main requests from St Vincent. The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency sent out a list through the Department of Emergency Management about the items they needed.

“The second shipment was 142 pallets and twenty-four 1 000-gallon water tanks and at least ten 1 000-litre totes from Bryden and Stokes. The Seventh-Day Adventist Church also sent thousands of dollars worth of items.”
