Local stakeholders are grateful UNICEF asked the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) to adjust testing methodologies for its Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) and Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE) exams.

And both the spokesperson for the Group of Concerned Parents Barbados, the Regional Coalition for CXC Exam Redress, Paula-Anne Moore, and student advocate Khaleel Kothdiwala believe if the regional body had listened to their lobbying, they could have avoided the “embarrassment”.

In a joint statement, they recalled that they have been speaking out against CXC’s decision to reinstate all three components of the exams this year and to resume face-to-face testing as well as its deferral option.

“We have only been making [the]  very statements, similar to that of UNICEF, consistently, constructively and forcefully, for eight months since the 22 September 2020 ‘CXC Exam Results Fiasco’ but now CARICOM/CXC suffers this embarrassment on the world stage by this UNICEF statement,” the statement said.
