NUPW staff protest ‘late pay’

Staff at the National Union of public Workers (NUPW), the body charged with agitating for the rights of workers within the civil service, were off the job yesterday morning over protracted concerns of late payment.

At the heart of the issue was the continued failure of president Akanni McDowall to sign the cheques in a timely manner, which would ensure the monies were on the account of workers on payday, said acting general secretary Wayne Walrond.

He said similar situations had happened in the past but this was “the straw that broke the camel’s back”.

Walrond said there was a similar incident at the National Assistance Board (NAB) last week and the NUPW stood in solidarity with those workers. (CLM)
