The husband and wife who last month found themselves at the alleged centre of a five-hour stand-off with public health officials are no longer accused of refusing to obey an order by the Chief Medical Officer.

They are now accused of obstructing a public health officer.

However, their attorney, Queen Counsel Michael Lashley, is calling it a “witch-hunt” and has vowed to also fight the new charges when the matter comes up later this month.

Fabian Antone John 46, and Vanessa Maylin John, 48, both of Kingsland Heights, Christ Church, were initially charged with and had pleaded not guilty to refusing to carry out a lawful order imposed by the Chief Medical Officer on April 26 this year. The offence was contrary to Section 12.1 (b) of the Quarantine Act. (HLE)
