Rape victim tells of trauma

Being raped spiralled her into bipolar depression, suicide attempts and acts of self-harm, a victim said yesterday.

However, said the girl, her psychiatrist avoided placing her on medication because she had also tried to overdose on drugs.

The complainant was giving her victim impact statement when a St Peter man reappeared in the No. 4 Supreme Court. He had pleaded guilty last month to having unlawful sexual intercourse with the girl.

He was represented by attorney Alvan Babb, while Crown Counsel Romario Straker prosecuted.

Yesterday, the girl told the court that in the wake of the incident, she was diagnosed with bipolar depression.
