Prosecutor: Music fuelling gun mentality

A prosecutor has spoken out against the controversial video created by ten artistes about gun violence, saying the only way to combat the suggestions by the singers is to impose substantial jail terms on those with illegal firearms.

Crown Counsel Kevin Forde was speaking yesterday as two men were back in the No. 4 Supreme Court after pleading guilty to having loaded guns.

One admitted he had a 9mm Glock pistol and ten rounds of ammunition while the other was caught with a .38-calibre revolver and four bullets.

“It seems to me that carrying around a loaded firearm is quite a popular idea among our youth, who we can sometimes see brandishing these weapons casually in videos on social media,” Forde, a former police officer, said yesterday.

This behaviour, he told the court, was fuelled by music which “depicted the notion of being in possession of guns and using these guns to kill and mash up people”. (HLE)
